Egg Freezing

Egg Freezing is the cryopreservation of one or more eggs, which can be used at a later date to attempt conception using assisted reproductive technologies. Egg freezing has contributed to over 600 births worldwide over the past ten years. Cryopreservation is a technology that was originally used in patients who were seeking a mechanism to maintain their ability to reproduce following invasive cancer treatments such as chemotherapy. Research is still being done to enhance the freeze/thaw process so that this technology can become more successful in its efforts to achieve a greater amount of pregnancies world-wide. Although cryopreservation is mainly recommended for patients who are entering invasive cancer treatments that may inhibit the future production of oocytes (eggs), it is also a mechanism used by women who are competing with their biological clocks. We at CACRM are continuing to research this aspect of fertility preservation so that we are able to further educate and inform our patients to make their journey to parenthood a successful one.
